Skyworlds – Night at the Museum

I started by studying the elements from watching the film, often creating simple hand sketches. I will then make the necessary adjustments in size and design in relation to the space and Health and Safety requirements.

For the Dinosaur, Rexy, I developed the posture, the tail length, positioning and curvature adjusted for the lobby space. I sourced a Honk Kong-based company with relationships in mainland China and worked on the sculpt and paint, remotely and by visiting the factory.

Dum Dum sculpture

Dum Dum during fabrication

With organic shapes such as those sconce, I started with a hand sketch study in order to understand the intricacy of the form. I then developed the model with the vendor’s 3D artist. I made some further clay adjustments to the sculpt on the 3D print and oversaw the fabrication by the vendor in China, including factory visit.

One part of the queue line was a replica of the break room from the film. The top image is  the wall by wall coloured elevations I created for the detail design package along with elements list, individual elements plates, colours and materials, as well as photo references.

Similarly, Dum Dum needed interpretation and extrapolation. From my line sketch, the fabricator produced a physical maquette for approval before full scale fabrication.

I also designed and prepared for print all graphics (background, information boards, etc.). I drew up the props list of the vitrine, designed the frame and the signage.
